The International VDI Congress ELIV will take place on October 15 and 16, 2025, in Bonn.
Under the motto “Accelerate Innovation,” the International VDI Congress ELIV (Electronics in Vehicles) will focus on future topics for the transformation of the automotive industry. The management and specialist community will meet on October 15 and 16, 2025, at the World Conference Center in Bonn. The renowned congress will focus on topics such as the role of open source in vehicle development, chiplets as a groundbreaking hardware innovation, artificial intelligence, and advances in autonomous driving and electromobility.
ELIV is considered a leading international platform, bringing together key players from automotive manufacturers, suppliers, leading new tech players, and the research and science communities. A key question at this year's event is: How can the pace of innovation be sustainably increased in order to secure the competitive position of the European automotive industry for the coming years and decades? Under the title “Accelerate Innovation,” leading experts will provide food for thought on this topic during a panel discussion.
In addition to the keynotes, which bring all participants together, the congress will address current developments and innovations as well as classic electronics topics in four parallel sessions. The ELIV program is already available online and once again covers a comprehensive range of topics with 96 practical presentations.
Automotive Trend Sessions on Open Source and Chiplets
Two Automotive Trend Sessions will focus on particularly relevant future fields: Building on the key topics of previous congresses, the first Automotive Trend Session will look at how open source can significantly reduce development times. A current example of this is an industry initiative that aims to accelerate software development for ADAS and autonomous vehicles using open source components. The second Automotive Trend Session will focus on new developments in the field of chiplets as the hardware basis for powerful and flexible systems in the vehicle electronics of tomorrow.
In addition, the topic of artificial intelligence will be explored in depth, particularly in the area of generative AI. Numerous practice-oriented presentations will show how AI is already changing the automotive industry today and will have an even greater impact in the future.
Lightning Talks: Spotlights on Innovative Topics
The Lightning Talks, which premiered last year, will be continued and expanded. The idea: Speakers − especially young professionals, students, and top innovators − have just three minutes to captivate their audience with their topic. Two blocks of Lightning Talks are now planned for both days of the congress, with the 20 presentations covering a wide range of topics from automotive electronics and charging technology to software and applications.
The Main Topics of ELIV 2025 at a Glance:
- Open Source – Automotive Trend Session I
- Chiplets – Automotive Trend Session II
- Accelerating Innovation
- Software for the SDV: Strategy, Security, Cloud, Virtualization, Data
- Automotive AI: Agentic AI, from Sensors to Validation
- Disruptive Methods & Tools
- Architecture & Communication
- Automated Driving: Validation, Safety
- Electronics Technology for Mobility
- Organizational Transformation
- Cockpit & Customer Experience
Trade Exhibition and Networking Opportunities
In the accompanying trade exhibition with around 100 companies, participants can find out about new products and services from suppliers and other service providers in addition to the specialist presentations. Innovative business ideas will be presented in the start-up area. There will also be numerous opportunities to exchange experiences and network, whether during the breaks between presentations or during the evening program on a boat trip on the Rhine.
Parallel Congress on Electronics in Commercial Vehicles
The VDI Congress Electric/Electronics for Commercial Vehicles 2025 will take place parallel to ELIV 2025. Key players in the commercial vehicle industry will provide insights into the latest electrical and electronic solutions. Advantage: Participants in both congresses can switch between sessions as they wish, allowing them to focus on their individual areas of interest. It is remarkable how the two sectors complement each other in terms of their innovative strength.
