Industry meeting of the combustion engine community

The International Engine Congress of VDI Wissensforum and ATZlive in Baden-Baden has been an important meeting place for engine developers and fuel specialists for years. Decision makers and experts from all over the world meet here to discuss the future of the combustion engine.

The main focus of the congress is to discuss the technical potential of the combustion engine for emission-neutral mobility in the future, because electric mobility alone will not achieve the ambitious climate goals of this and the upcoming decades.  An important key here is fuel, because its decarbonization would help the entire engine-fuel system to move in the right direction for a climate-neutral propulsion.

The congress is therefore based on three equally important thematic pillars: consideration of the overall system of combustion engines for passenger cars and commercial vehicles as well as fuels.  The aim is to make targeted use of the synergies with regard to fuels, their properties and the new approaches to powertrain development based on them. With the close interaction between passenger car and commercial vehicle engine developers and fuel experts, we want to promote the exchange of experience, both nationally and internationally, within the framework of this multipart congress.

Good Reasons

[Translate to English:] Präsentation

Unique technical congress on the future of the entire combustion engine system

Not all the technological treasures of the combustion engine have yet been recovered. The International Engine Congress in Baden-Baden will provide excellent technical answers to the question of which levers can be used to raise efficiency to 50% and how the combustion engine, in combination with innovative fuels, plays an important role in climate-neutral mobility. The congress of VDI and ATZlive is regarded in the industry as the platform for open, controversial and forward-looking discussions about the mobility of tomorrow.

[Translate to English:] Networking

Excellent professional exchange with colleagues from home and abroad

As a participant, you can expect a cross-industry exchange between experts from the fields of passenger car and commercial vehicle engine development as well as from the fuel sector. Every year in February, you will have the opportunity to meet engine developers from all over the world in Baden-Baden and exchange ideas on the future of the entire combustion engine system. The focus is on concrete technological solutions and strategies for engine technology.

[Translate to English:] Ausstellung

Large trade exhibition about engine technology

"Experts for experts" is the motto. Benefit from the large trade exhibition, TIER I suppliers as well as OEs. The breaks offer plenty of space for exchanging information about the latest products and developments in engine technology alongside the specialist program.

[Translate to English:] Hörsaal

Around 40 presentations by OEM representatives and the supplier industry

10 keynote speeches and 30 specialist presentations on a wide range of topics - that is the diversity of the Engine Congress. With your registration you can attend all presentations of the congress, you will receive all lectures of the strings "Passenger Car Engine Technology", Commercial Vehicle Engine Technology" and "Fuels". You can expect a professional and profound exchange of ideas at the highest level.

Target group

The Engine Congress is targeted at engineers and technicians from industry, research and education who are engaged in enhancing traditional development areas of the internal combustion engine or in advancing processes and systems for producing conventional or renewable fuels. The presentations will also be of interest to chemists and biologists operating in this field. The emphasis is placed on diesel and petrol/gas engines for various applications, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles and off-highway uses.

Review of the last Engine Congress

For the 10th time, up to 320 international engine developers met to discuss the future of the combustion engine in passenger cars and commercial vehicles online and on-site. The topic of fuels was of particular importance, since synthetic fuels are considered to be a key to the emission-neutral operation of diesel and petrol engines.

In addition to 10 plenary lectures and an intensive panel discussion on "Energy mix for the mobility of the future” with representatives from the industry, education and the government the experts discussed solutions for

  • Climate-friendly internal combustion engines from a global perspective
  • Internal combustion engines and fuels as a complete system:  CO2 neutrality, emissions, electrification
  • The use of hydrogen and synthetic fuels
  • Cross-sector life cycle considerations

Program Committee „International Engine Congress": PC, CV and Fuels

The leading organizers of automotive congresses in the German-speaking region have jointly developed the International Engine Congress: ATZlive and VDI Wissensforum. The Network of both organizers is well known for sophisticated technology and quality.

Developing a successful congress is quite a special job. The best experts and the best Network are required to recognize the "tide of times". The dedicated committees consist of experts from the passenger and commercial vehicle industry with focus on R&D combustion engines as well as from the fuel industry. These experts help us to identify current topics and speakers. They act as our trend-scouts, eyes-and-ears focused on current questions, so that we are able to offer our attendees the best information and knowledge they need for their work.

26 experts from the industry and science support the International Engine Congress.

We enjoy setting up such a fascinating congress in close collaboration with the experts and would like to thank them for their commitment.
