The VDI Workshop "Service-Oriented Architecture in the Automobile" will introduce you to the fundamental concepts and advantages of service-oriented architectures (SOA) in the automotive industry. You'll discover why SOA are rapidly gaining importance in the automotive sector and what this means for the transformation of the E/E architecture. With a specific implementation example of SOA for AUTOSAR Classic and AUTOSAR Adaptive, you'll learn the practical aspects that really matter.

Modular, scalable and reusable

Service-oriented architectures are becoming increasingly pivotal in the automotive industry. SOA is a design paradigm for the creation and implementation of complex software systems that can be updated and upgraded throughout the product lifecycle. It includes a layer that acts as middleware between applications and the operating system. This technology allows for software applications to be highly reusable, easily updated and loosely coupled with hardware. This requires an architectural design capable of handling service-oriented communication patterns and protocols, which are distinct from traditional signal-oriented approaches.

The VDI Workshop "Service-Oriented Architecture in Automotive" is highly interactive and workshop-based, led by two experienced experts from Vector, a leading provider of software tools and components for the development of electronic systems in the automotive industry. You will gain first-hand knowledge of how to work with the PREEvision development tool and what is essential in the service implementation for AUTOSAR Classic and AUTOSAR Adaptive. Armed with this knowledge, you'll be well-equipped to assess the significance of service-oriented architectures for your business.

The workshop takes place one day after the VDI Conference "Automotive Data Communication." Benefit from a significantly reduced combination price when you book both events together.

  • A model-based design approach: PREEvision
  • Network and platform design (high-performance computing, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Service and software design
  • Service implementation for AUTOSAR Classic and AUTOSAR Adaptive
  • SOME/IP communication
  • Signal-to-service mapping

Target Group

The Workshop "Service-Oriented Architecture in the Automobile" is aimed at professionals and executives involved with in-vehicle communication and networking. Participants that will particularly benefit from attending include employees in the following sectors:

  • Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
  • Tier 1 suppliers
  • Semiconductor manufacturers
  • Cable and connector manufacturers

Your speakers:

Alexander Mayr brings years of experience from various projects at both OEM and Tier 1 level in the automotive industry. He has worked as the Product Manager for the E/E development tool PREEvision at Vector Informatik GmbH in Stuttgart since 2017. His responsibilities include service-oriented architectures, AUTOSAR and Ethernet.

Marcelino Varas has been with Vector since 2009. As of 2023, he has taken on the role of Product Area Manager for PREEvision, overseeing software, communication and diagnostic design areas. In this capacity, he defines the strategic positioning for these topics.
