On June 12th and 13th 2024 experts from Germany and abroad will meet at the 8th VDI Conference ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines 2024’ to discuss drivetrain development and design for mobile machinery. Off-highway experts will talk about systemic and modular technical solutions for traction and process drives. Conventional developments as well as electrified solutions, whether with batteries, fuel cells or hybrid designs, will be part of the technical discussion. There will be an update on the future European regulations and a positioning with regard to alternative drives and energy sources. The innovative drive solutions are to discuss with their effects on all three dimensions of sustainability. Finally, the possibilities that information technology, automation and AI currently offer are of concern to the industry and to the conference.

Challenges for the off-highway industry

Efficient and intelligent - that's how drive systems for mobile work machines must be.

Demands for drive solutions with the lowest possible emissions, growing demands for increased efficiency and service life, but also relating to the use of data, are just a few of the drivers that repeatedly give rise to new developments in the field of drive systems in mobile machinery. Mobile machinery manufacturers are faced with the development of alternatives to replace the conventional powertrain.

What are the challenges of electric drivetrain systems and possible solutions? What is the status of fuel cell systems for heavy-duty machinery? How are electric drivetrains implemented and what do they look like in various heavy-duty applications? What are the challenges related to infrastructure for mobile machines: Energy supply, tank design and mobile sources? These are all current questions to be discussed.

Advantages

  • Register now and become part of an inspiring exchange on the latest developments in drive technology for mobile work machines.
  • Explore the Future: Uncover the power of conventional or hybrid drivetrains, electric propulsion with battery, or fuel cell innovations for mobile machines.
  • Experience, connections, colleague, clients: Expand your knowledge and network

Detailed agenda of the conference

Together with our top-class program committee, we have put together a two-day specialist program with exciting keynotes and numerous practical examples.

Main topics of discussion of the VDI symposium "Drive Systems in Mobile Machines" will be in 2024:

  • Think about energy supply and drive technology holistically
  • Alternatives with and without combustion engines
  • Electric off-road – with batteries or fuel cells
  • Solutions for traction and process drives
  • New drive systems in various applications
  • Experience reports of successful transformation

Grand opening

A highlight of the event will also be the keynote speech by Dipl.-Ing. Jan-Hendrik Mohr, CEO of the CLAAS Group, on the topic "Drivetrain technology in agricultural machines – traditionally innovative" As part of the joint overall congress opening with Dritev, you will learn more about the development of drivetrain technologies and the challenges in drivetrains for agricultural machinery.

Additionally, leading companies and institutes will present new solutions

The conference is a great international channel for the transfer of knowledge and technology knowhow in the commercial vehicle sector. Speakers from these companies give a valuable insight into current challenges and opportunities in the mobile machinery industry:

AVL List • BAUER Maschinen • Bosch Rexroth • CNH Industrial Österreich • Dana • Danfoss Editron • Deere & Company • DINTEC • Hako • Hyzon Motors • ITK Engineering • Kramer-Werke • KREISEL Electric • Kuratorium für Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft e. V. (KTBL) • Liebherr-Electronics and Drives • Liebherr-EMtec • MSE, RWTH Aachen University • Volkswagen • Webasto Group • ZF Friedrichshafen

Workshop on the previous day focuses on sustainability in product development

Engineers are not only focusing on sustainability in drivetrain technology but also in the entire product development process. Therefore, we invite you to a day seminar on June 11, 2024, as part of the conference, titled "Designing and Embedding Sustainability Techniques in System Engineering." This seminar will deeply explore the fundamentals of integrating sustainability into product development. The workshop must be booked separately and is only offered in German language.

What else can you expect at the event?

One ticket, two conferences - Participants can encounter new ideas and stimuli not only at the lectures of the ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines 2024’ conference, but they can also switch free of charge between the parallel series of lectures at ‘Dritev´ This offers you a great opportunity to meet a lot of like-minded people, talk shop with the experts and exchange new ideas.

The joint evening event offers you an excellent option of networking with experts from Germany and abroad. Take advantage of this opportunity to exchange ideas face-to-face with your drive and transmission community and take away new ideas.

The Speakers Corner will give you the possibility to meet once again with the inspiring speakers of the conference. After the presentations, you will have the chance to talk to the speakers in person and ask specific questions.

A motor show and the trade exhibition will be held in parallel with the conference. More than 100 national and international exhibitors will present innovative solutions in the field of drive systems. The motor show brings vehicle concepts to life for you. ‘Hands-on’ is the motto of the DriveLab. Here you can have a closer look at the disassembled transmission components. Take advantage of our entire supporting programme and round off your conference visit.
