- Discuss new powertrain solutions for off-highway operations: electrification, battery, fuel cell, hybrid
- Network with your peers and share ideas in a stimulating atmosphere at a high professional level
- Listen to numerous technical presentations with a strong relevance to praxis and OEMs

On July 06th and 07th 2022 experts from Germany and abroad will meet at the 7th VDI Conference ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines 2022’ to discuss drivetrain development and design for mobile machinery. Off-highway experts will discuss future challenges and new solutions in the fields of electrified off-road applications, whether with battery, fuel cell or also in hybrid designs. Modular solutions for traction and process drives will be presented. The important topic of increasing efficiency through digitalization will be discussed. Important related issues are such as real-time data acquisition, driving analysis or predictive maintenance.
Challenges for the off-highway industry
Demands for drive solutions with the lowest possible emissions, growing demands for increased efficiency and service life, but also relating to the use of data, are just a few of the drivers that repeatedly give rise to new developments in the field of drive systems in mobile machinery. Mobile machinery manufacturers are faced with the development of alternatives to replace the conventional powertrain. What innovative solutions and practical experiences with new efficient drive systems are available? What role do hydrogen drives play in mobile machines and why? Where do battery electric drives make sense and where do they come up against system limits? What are the challenges of electric drives in off-road applications? These are all current questions to be discussed.
Main topics of discussion of the VDI symposium "Drive Systems in Mobile Machines" will be in 2022:
- European regulations in the off-highway sector: emissions, technical rules, examples
- Opportunities for electrified off-road applications
- Hydrogen-based off-road solutions
- Impact of energy sources on powertrain architecture
- Modular and integrated solutions for traction and process drives
- Smart strategies through AI
- Field reports on innovative drive systems
Grand opening
`The off-highway machine of the future – concepts of alternative drive technologies` will be the decisive theme of the keynote speech in the opening session of Mr. Eugen Schobesberger, Managing Director R&D, Liebherr-EMtec GmbH, Kirchdorf/Iller, Germany. He takes up aspects of the European Green Deal, considers the question ‘are there alternatives to electrification of machines’ and pays attention to the sustainability of various drive systems: “from cradle to cradle” (material life cycle)
Don´t miss out meeting speakers from these companies presenting their new solutions and best practices:
AGCO | AVL Tractor Engineering Germany | Bosch Rexroth | CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen | Dana Incorporated | Danfoss Power Solutions | DEUTZ | Federal Environment Agency | FEV Europe | Institute of Natural Materials Technology, TU Dresden | Institute for Mechatronic Systems in Mechanical Engineering, TU Darmstadt | Institute of Mobile Machines and Commercial Vehicles (IMN), TU Braunschweig | John Deere | Kramer Werke | Liebherr EMtec | Liebherr Machines Bulle | Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM), RWTH Aachen University | Robert Bosch | ZF Friedrichshafen
For the conference lectures simultaneous interpreting (German - English) via headphones will provided.
Virtual Participation – our hybrid version of the VDI conference ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines’
The 7th international VDI conference ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines’ is in person in Baden-Baden. But our hybrid concept offers you the unique possibility to decide yourself if you want to visit the face-to-face meeting or if you want to participate the conference online. You choose. The digital format of conference is giving you the opportunity to get informed – easy, conveniently and from home or office without travel time.

What else can you expect at the event?
One ticket, two conferences - Participants can encounter new ideas and stimuli not only at the lectures of the ‘Powertrain Systems in Mobile Machines 2022’ conference, but they can also switch free of charge between the parallel series of lectures at ‘Dritev´ This offers you a great opportunity to meet a lot of like-minded people, talk shop with the experts and exchange new ideas.
The joint evening event offers you an excellent option of networking with experts from Germany and abroad. Take advantage of this opportunity to exchange ideas face-to-face with your drive and transmission community and take away new ideas.
The Speakers Corner will give you the possibility to meet once again with the inspiring speakers of the conference. After the presentations, you will have the chance to talk to the speakers in person and ask specific questions.
A Motor Show and the Trade Exhibition will be held in parallel with the conference. More than 100 national and international exhibitors will present innovative solutions in the field of drive systems. The motor show brings vehicle concepts to life for you. ‘Hands-on’ is the motto of the DriveLab. Here you can have a closer look at the disassembled transmission components.
Take advantage of our entire supporting programme and round off your conference visit.
