8th International VDI Conference Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles

Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles 2023 | VDI Wissensforum

At the 8th International Conference ‘Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles‘ on July 5th and 6th, 2023 major players in the commercial vehicle sector will give an insight into the latest developments of powertrain solutions that solely run on battery power as well as concepts based on hybrid and conventional solutions.

Multiple solutions for the drive train of commercial vehicles

In light of CO2 regulations getting more and more stringent, commercial vehicle manufacturers are faced with the development of alternatives to replace the conventional powertrain. Although a battery-powered solution is particularly attractive for city traffic, it does not seem to be doable for heavy commercial traffic due to capacity and weight-saving reasons – at least in the medium term. Therefore hybrid concepts and synthetic fuels are of crucial interest.

The VDI conference ‘Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles’ will deal with these top issues in 2023:

•    New developments for electrified powertrains for commercial vehicles
•    Strategies for reduction of CO2 emissions and development trends towards CO2-neutral powertrains
•    BEV, Fuel Cell, H2: zero-emissions technologies to power vehicles
•    Future and improvements in efficiency of conventional powertrains
•    Field reports on innovative drive systems
•    Dimensions and scale of electrical component e.g. e-axles
•    Best practices for the hybridization of commercial vehicles
•    Future and improvements in efficiency of conventional powertrains
•    Data and Security in the drive system

Conference Plenary – look into the future, and to the challenges of the commercial vehicle market

All participants of conference ‘Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles’ and the congress ‘Dritev’ are invited to attend at the plenary session at the opening day on July 5th, 2023. Keynote speeches from renowned experts will take up, what is affecting the industry.

The topic “Leading sustainable transportation: Bringing our vision to the road” will be presented by Dipl.-Ing. (BA) Christian Gropp, Director development e-axles, axles and transmission form Daimler Truck AG. He will explain the dual track strategy of Daimler Truck: battery-electric and hydrogen-based propulsion systems. The transformation of the commercial vehicle industry will be addressed.

Leading companies and institutes will present new solutions

The conference is a great international channel for the transfer of knowledge and technology knowhow in the commercial vehicle sector.

Speakers from these companies gives a valuable insight into current challenges and opportunities in the commercial vehicle industry:

AVL List • AVL Software and Functions • ConMet • Daimler Truck • Institut für Antriebs- und Fahrzeugtechnik, Universität Kassel • Institut für Fahrzeugkonzepte, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) • Institut für Kraftfahrzeuge (ika), RWTH Aachen University • Interpump Hydraulics • J.M. Voith • Lehrstuhl Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM), RWTH Aachen University • Magna Powertrain of America • MAN Truck & Bus • Scania • Valeo Powertrain Systems Driveline • ZF CV Systems Hannover • ZF Friedrichshafen

Don´t miss out being part of the VDI conference ‘Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles” – it is concentrated knowledge combined with excellent experiences.

For the conference lectures simultaneous interpreting (German - English) via headphones will be provided.

Workshop on the previous day focuses on hydrogen drives
How can the lifetime of fuel cells be maximized by the right operating strategy? What makes fuel cell drives technically and economically attractive? What can be improved by system-oriented validation measures in the design of fuel cell drives? are questions that will be addressed in a one-day seminar before the conference. The workshop „Wasserstoffbasierte Antriebssysteme – Rahmenbedingungen, Funktion und Technologie" must be booked separately, and are only offered in the German language.

Under the direction of Thomas Landsherr, Vice President, MAN Truck & Bus SE, Engineering Powertrain – Transmission and Driveability Development (EPD), Germany the conference program will be set up. He will be supported by committee of experts. Based on the abstract, the program committee will decide on the acceptance and order of presentation.

What else can you expect at the VDI conference?

One ticket, two conferences - you can encounter new ideas and stimuli not only at the lectures of the ‘Drivetrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles‘ conference, you can also switch free of charge between the parallel series of lectures at the congress ‘Dritev’. This offers a great opportunity to meet a lot of like-minded people, talk shop with the experts and exchange new ideas.

The joint evening event offers all participants an excellent option of networking with experts from Germany and abroad. Take advantage of this opportunity to exchange ideas face-to-face with your drive and transmission community and take away new ideas.

A Motor Show and the Trade Exhibition will be held in parallel with the conference. National and international exhibitors will present innovative solutions in the field of drive systems. The motor show brings vehicle concepts to life for you.

Take advantage of our entire supporting program and round off your conference visit.
